Welcome to the UCF Student Athletic Trainers’ Organization (SATO) Web site. Our organization has four main goals:
1. Further the education of those interested in the field of Athletic Training
We have a general meeting once a month where we invite guest speakers to come in and share their knowledge of the field as well as talk about their favorite athletic training issues. These issues may include anything from a specific injury or awareness of the field to talking about their professions and how they got to where they are now. In the past, some of our guest speakers have been from the NFL and NASCAR!
We take every opportunity to volunteer in the community with events such as the Valencia 5K and the Doug Gabriel Annual Youth Football Clinic. Not only does this increase our members’ exposure to the field and provide experience, but it also increases the community’s awareness of our field and how important it is to the athletes we provide healthcare for.
During the past year, we have worked events such as the Mountain Dew Action Sports Tour and the Disney Marathon to obtain exposure to the field and increase our knowledge by working directly next to a certified athletic trainer. These events also give us a behind the scenes look at the jobs of professional athletic trainers in those kinds of settings, as well as allow each of us to develop a greater understanding of the field in which we will be working.
Also, one of our biggest events of the year is our trip to the Southeast Athletic Trainers’ Organization’s annual student symposium in Atlanta, GA. It is a two-day convention whose sole purpose is the education of students in colleges throughout the Southeast. It is a great way to meet other students in District IX, which includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands, as well as network with faculty and staff members from those universities. You never know who your next boss will be!
We participate in many different social and recreational activities just to kick back and have fun! We bond as members of an organization with a common interest. This year, we have events planned such as bowling, canoeing, movie nights and outings to various places like Universal Studios for Halloween Horror Nights!
I am excited about the awesome year ahead of us and eager to meet all of you! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
